Looks like fun. I just upped the weight on my kettlebell swing, actually, and when I was careless putting the kettlebell down, hurt my back a little, “earning” me two rest days. Back on it tomorrow, though.
BTW, when you go to individual posts on the blog, the “login” link to comment on them returns a 404 error. I had to punch in a login URL directly to log in and comment.
December 22nd, 2008 at 10:41 pmRhett, thanks for the bug report!!
The link that is failing looks like this, I think: http://crossfitlp.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http://crossfitLP.com/200812/eva/
What did you type to fix this, to bypass the error? This may take quite a bit of poking around in wordpress to figure out how it’s happening.
Sorry about your back injury!!! Apparently Pavel is aware of this injury tendency. In his Enter The Kettlebell dvd & book, he says you must *always* return the kettlebell to the ground with correct posture (back arched). The first lesson he gives in using the kettlebell is correct deadlift technique, which he then says you must practice in every exercise you ever perform with the kettlebell; no exercise is finished until you’ve put the bell back down with a strong core. Only then can you relax your core.
I’ve been hit-and-miss in teaching my clients to do the same; I’ve usually taught the same in the first lesson, but then I’ve seen them finish loose and not said anything. I’ll be much more vigilant from now on. Thanks for your update! I hope your back will be better soon.
December 22nd, 2008 at 11:08 pmI knocked off the ? and everything after. That at least got me to the login screen, though the redirect_to argument is clearly designed to cause a redirect back to the post after logging in. My first guess is that the URL in the redirect_to argument isn’t properly escaped. I checked this by replacing the URL after = with a dummy value that had no special characters. I’m guessing somewhere in your template there’s a missing function call to URL-encode or something. If you’re having trouble finding it, I might be able to help.
My back is fine now. I thought about going in today, since I woke up still hurting but was fine in the afternoon, and I decided against pushing it. And yes…please watch for that. In my case, it was a combination of the swing and my mindlessness in trying to chase the class out the door and catch them in a run. I didn’t stop the swing and gently lower the weight with my back arched…I let it swing down and bent at the hips with it. Wrong wrong wrong. A lighter weight kettlebell was safe for that sloppiness. A heavier one, on the down swing, had kinetic energies I hadn’t planned on.
