I had to submit this letter more than six times, progressively filtering out every piece of punctuation besides periods, commas and question marks, and removing any “www”, before it could accept my comment. The resulting letter is far inferior to the letter I initially wrote.
In response to, “As for the Cross Fit training program, there have been serious concerns about the Cross Fit program from many AF Fitness Program Managers about high rates of injuries while participating in this program. Cross Fit is not endorsed by any particular Special Operations Forces or the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and the AF Portal no longer has a direct link to the Cross Fit Web site.”
I must respectfully address the unsupported assertions you made about CrossFit training.
CrossFit has proven to be far safer than previous PT programs as experienced by the US Navys BUD/S training by the Naval Special Warfare Center in Coronado. You can contact Andy Stumpf, who implemented CrossFit at BUD/S and has tracked its efficacy and safety compared against the previous 15 years of PT evolutions for BUD/S, to confirm.
You can likewise contact US Marine Infantry Officers schools at Camp Pendleton and Quantico who have implemented CrossFit largely for its far superior safety and effectiveness. The Colorado State Patrol Academy is another training program that has not experienced a single injury in 14 of its last 15 graduating classes since implementing CrossFit. Dallas SWAT, the Canadian Infantry training, and most tellingly, thousands of operators and infantrymen deployed and down range for the last five years, all will tell the same story, emphatically and unambiguously.
The examples I’ve given are the tip of the iceberg to anyone honest enough to do the research.
You gentlemen have the serious responsibility of finding the safest, most effective and most efficient training programs to keep your servicemen and women on point and competent.
The record is clear that CrossFit is safer, as well as superior in results and overall costs, to historic military PT training. I hope, and every American, every service member, and all our loved ones should hope, you’ll do your research a little more carefully and make a better informed decision.
With more thorough research and experience, you might follow General Neubauer’s example, as Commander, 56th Fighter Wing at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona, in implementing CrossFit training for your very worthy operators at Cannon.
Sincerely,
